Wisconsin Act 81: Requires all School Employees to Report Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect

Wisconsin Act 81 became effective today.   https://docs.legis.wisconsin.gov/2011/related/acts/81

It changes Ch. 48 to require all school employees to report suspected child abuse and neglect.  In addition, it requires all public school district employees to receive training by DPI on these responsibilities (i.e., within 6 months for newly hired employees and every 5 years for all other employees).

Right now, what this means is all public school employees must receive the training by June 9th.  Not surprisingly, schools are beginning to call with questions about how they are to fulfill this new requirement.

We will be updating the webcast we have posted on this topic and school districts can have their employees watch it to fulfill the requirement.  We may have another alternative that can be implemented locally, but that idea is still pending.
